As our reality becomes increasingly restrictive and challenging, it’s a crucial time to develop our consciousness and nurture internal positivity. In essence, the true source of peace and happiness lies inside us, so it’s important to make time to relax and find space to escape inwards. Our special bundle of Palo Santo sticks contains a selection of music designed to transport you away from the stresses of today’s world and into a place of transcendence.
Palo Santo (meaning Holy Wood) is a revered, scented stick obtained from the wood of the sacred South American tree. It is used in ceremony and by spiritually-conscious people for the purpose of clearing bad energy from spaces and instilling a peaceful atmosphere.
On this compilation you’ll find ambient, calming productions that complement the soothing aroma of the wonderful Palo Santo sticks. So light one up, kick back and drift away into the ether...
The comp begins with ‘Oblio’ by Michele Di Martino and Anetha, where a sombre, droning atmosphere is juxtaposed with chirping birds and gentle percussive vibrations. A short intro that takes us into the main collection.
This is followed by Soel’s ‘Nefti’, which plays out like a scene from a movie soundtrack, Soel incorporating spine-tingling strings and enchanting instrumentation to play with your emotions and conjure up images of alternate worlds.
‘Indian Carmelo’ offers a contemplative ride into the unknown. The pads drift over a minimal layer of drums as Ditian invites us to stare out of the window at the sparse landscape that stretches out into the infinite horizon.
Next up is ‘Peanuts’, a cosmic love song composed by intelligent machines from the future. Can Love Be Synth composes a heartfelt ode to the mysteries of the universe, somehow taking us into tomorrow with a mix of psychedelic and intergalactic synth.
Echonomist gets dramatic with ‘Underwater Memories’, a solemn cut that plays out like a symphony from the 31st Century. The foundation puts your mind into contemplation mode, while the neon flashes of synth jolt you into your physical body, the push and pull of those elements creating an interesting combination of experiences.
Innellea takes us on a brief interlude with ‘2600’. The beeping of a heart monitor at the core of this minimal composition. It’s hypnotic and strangely unsettling, especially when the monitor flatlines at the end...
This is followed by label heads Adana Twins with ‘The Day After Tomorrow’, an emotive sonic depiction of our unknown future. Its melancholy and introspective intro leads us into a funky little groover, which rolls out with a more upbeat vibration. Swirling pads remind us that tomorrow’s world is in our hands, we just need to believe that change is possible.
Atelier brings in a haunting vocal track with ‘Burn Through You’. This is where the energy starts to increase further, with a rousing breakdown and uplifting second half. Atelier’s cut leads us towards the end of the comp with a smiling soul.
Ruede Hagelstein and Justin Evans team up for ‘Hero Stratos’, which has an intro that feels like the take off of a rocket. The rhythm will put you in trance, as a mystical vocal reverberates over the top. Hagelstein and Evans carefully build a scintillating atmosphere, gently ramping up the energy with an array of strange, yet satisfying effects.
The penultimate track, entitled ‘Shout’ by Mulya, guides us to the close of the comp. A mesmerizing synth melody dances over a dour low end, and Mulya gets all glitchy on us as the cut progresses. His considered composition really amplifies the emotions, ramping things up with a DnB-esque crescendo at the finish.
Finally, Digitalism leaves us with ‘Oscillator 168’, a shimmering, invigorating slice of electronic wizardry. Dense yet minimal and highly affecting, it closes the collection on a high, giving you a warm, full body buzz.
